π, which is the ratio between the circumference of a circle to its diameter, is an irrational number, meaning that it is impossible to represent it in the form of a fraction. 22/7 and 3.14 are but approximate values of π that are used only in selected questions which state these values.

On the other hand, questions on finding the area or circumference of a circle may sometimes require students to use the calculator value of π to compute the final answer. To obtain the most accurate answer of such a word problem, it is best that students leave all answers in terms of π in the preceding working, so as to retain the exact value of π.

In the final working of the word problem, include the value of π in the calculator working to get the best possible answer. From there, your rounded off answer would then be the most accurate.
