#2 -  A sneaky and fun way to get your child to practice English writing even if your child absolutely hates writing composition

As a parent, we all know that the only way to improve your composition writing is to practice writing essays. Unfortunately, getting your child to sit down for one hour just to write an essay can be a humongous task and hair-tearing experience, especially if he simply hates writing.

But what if there is a way to make it fun and interesting for your child?

Without making it seem so academic…

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that learning how to build a website can actually help your child with creative writing.

You see, when you have a website, you need to add content to it. But adding content is not just about images and videos alone. You also need to do some writing.

Here’s where the fun comes in.

Suppose your child loves Pokemon and decided to build a website all on Pokemon.

Maybe he has a favourite Pokemon character, and he knows the strengths and weakness of this particular character, what it can evolved to and so on. You can encourage him to write a description of this character, gather some images and upload to his website.

You can help him organize his thoughts into bullet points so that it becomes easier for him to write. He can start off by writing a short paragraph for each character.

You just need to find a topic that your child is passionate about. It could be his hobby, his favourite soccer team or even a recent holiday on the Royal Caribbean.  Find something that he likes to do and talks about every day. Even watching YouTube videos can help. You could encourage him to talk about the video and then write down what he learnt from watching the video. Embed that video to his website with a short description written by him and voilà!

Now, can you see how this approach can make it fun for your child?

Tomorrow, I’m going to tell you a simple method that I use how to turn a simple boring sentence into a sentence that is creative piece of work.  I teach this skill to my students who attend my website building class as it helps them write content for their website.

So stay tune.

Now, here’s the good news.

Mind Sprout Pte Ltd will be conducting a 4-hour website building workshop for children. And parents are encouraged to attend the workshop together with their children. The children will actually be building their own website in the class. By the end of the workshop, they will walk away with their own website that they have built. Plus, they would have acquired the skills of building a website.

If you think this is something that will benefit your child, come and attend this 4-hour workshop.

P.S: This is great for both parents and child to come together and bond while experiencing growth.
