Draw a timeline whenever making a reference to adding or taking away duration from a particular time of the day. Since time of the day is not a value that can be added or taken away from, unlike a whole number, a duration of time before or after the time of the day ought to be expressed in terms of a timeline.

How can you apply this tip?

An example of using a timeline is shown below:

Jia Ling had a fever and the doctor gave her some medicine to take once every 6 hours. Jia Ling took her first dose of medicine at 8.25 a.m. At what time should she take her third dose of medicine?

Solution:

Her third dose of medication was taken at 8.25 p.m.
