Tip 13: Yes or No?

“Teacher Ros, can I lie during oral exam?”  This is a common question that students ask me.

Upon delving further, I’ve come to realise that students are confused. They are not sure if they should spin a story or be upfront when they are asked to share an experience which they have not encountered.

第十三天: 赞成与否

一直有学生问我：“老师，考口试的时候，我应该撒谎吗？”

经过一番探索，我发现原来学生感到困惑的地方在于他们在回答分享经历的问题时，有时候可能真的没有那样的经历。他们不知道该编个谎还是老实说“没有”。

 

这时候，我会建议他们坦白地承认他们自己没有那样的经历，然后：

1)分享周围的人是否有那样的经历

2)进一步去假设如果自己有那样的经历的话，会怎么样

以上的应对策略和撒谎是不一样的，因为撒谎是把‘没有的说成有’或‘有的说成没有’。

 

以下的例子用的是第一个策略：

Qn: 在生活中，你或家人有在不适当的时候使用手机吗？谈一谈那次的经验。 Have you or your family members used mobile phones at inappropriate times? Please elaborate.

我和我的家人都没有在不适当的时候用手机，但是我看过一个年轻人在不适当的时候用手机。当时，他坐在图书馆的公用长桌那里温习功课，我就站在他的不远处读书(翻阅书籍)。突然，他的手机响了起来，(惹人厌的)铃声吵(干扰)到周围的人。有些人，包括我在内，都不高兴地看着他(向他投以不悦的目光)，可是他却假装没看见(视若无睹)，不但大声地接听电话，还和打电话给他的人讲起话来（电话另一端的人聊了起来）。

 

用黑体字标的词可以更简练地表达意思，但你不需要全都用上。最重要的还是清楚地表达你的意见。

The words in bold are alternatives that can convey the meaning better. There is no need to use all of them. Most importantly, get your idea across clearly.

 

另外，如果你不赞成，你可以直接回答。你不一定每次都要赞成。重点是在回答你的看法后要加以解释。
