The only metals that are considered magnetic are iron, nickel, cobalt and manganese. Wait, where’s steel? Technically, steel is a metal alloy; it comprises iron and carbon.

Other metals such as gold, brass, copper and aluminium are non-magnetic materials.

Incidentally, that is where you find some of these metals in your kitchen and bathroom pipes. Can you explain why?

Note: Don’t go all technical on me and argue that all materials are naturally magnetic due to diamagnetism; that’s not the point of this post.
