1.    What is a Compound Subject ?

  •  When a sentence has two or more nouns to form a single, larger noun phrase, that’s called a “compound subject.”

2.    Compound Subject joined by “and”…

  •  Generally, use a plural verb when two or more nouns are connected by “and”.

E.g.

Peter and Jane are walking to school.

My brother and sister are fighting.

  •  Exceptions…

However, there are some exceptions to this rule. “Fish and Chips” , “Breaking and entering” and “bed and breakfast” are considered as compound nouns.

E.g.

Fish and chips is my favorite food.

Breaking and entering is against the law.

The bed and breakfast was a surprise this morning.
