Topic: Heat
Key Words: temperature, expand
Answer: When the train tracks are exposed to a large amount of sunlight, the temperature of the train tracks increase. With a higher temperature, the train tracks will expand. The expansion will cause the buckling in the train tracks.
A solution would be expansion gaps in train tracks. With expansion gaps, train tracks can expand without buckling.
Tip: Some students answer the first part of the question – explain why. But, they forget about the second part of the question on suggesting a solution. Students should always remember to answer all parts of the questions not just the first part.
