I know. I know. Your child has probably been taught by you or her teacher to do silent reading for the first two minutes once she gets the reading passage.  Please get that thinking out of your brain now.

For the first two minutes, it is crucial to read the passage out aloud at least twice! Yes, aloud!

She needs to read the passage a few times to get the right pace and the rhythm of the passage.

Reading aloud also forces her eyes, brain, mouth and tongue to get used to the passage so that they will come together as one entity during reading.
