In any case, Murphy will happen to your child if he is not prepared enough. Have 2 sets of all stationery, and that includes the calculator if possible. At least have an extra set of batteries and teach your child to change them.
Other things he can do is to fill his mechanical pencils and correction tapes prior to the exam. A minute wasted to refill during the exam is a chance lost to salvage a mistake.
