Now this is a technique that is very intuitive, but many children don't practice. I am not sure if this is because they have been conditioned to attempt the paper in a linear fashion, or they are afraid to leave a question or page blank initially.
The fact is, some children spend too much time to solve a difficult question, and they later find they have insufficient time to finish the paper.
The technique I teach my boy is to first skim through the entire paper once he gets his hands on it. Then, he should start with the easy questions first. That should instill more confidence in him, so that he can return to the more difficult questions later on when his mind becomes more ready to take them on.
This technique is useful when he graduates to papers later in his years when not all questions need to be attempted.
